BUSY WOOLWORTHS HELPS SCA PROPERTY LIFT ITS 2018 FORECAST |
Woolworths’ efforts to trounce its rival Coles in the battle for grocery dollars has paid off for retail landlord SCP Property Group which has lifted its 2018 forecasts as supermarket sales rise and held its own in a broad equities market sell-off.
Led by Anthony Mellowes, the shopping centre owner reported first half funds from operations – the earnings figure preferred by property trusts – for the 2018 financial year of $56.1 million, up 4.9 per cent. The stock was down 0.45 per cent in trading on Tuesday despite a the broader All Ordinaries index slumping 3.2 per cent.Turnover rent, which supermarkets and other anchors deliver as sales grow, increased for SCP Property pleasing investors. |

AIRBNB IS NOT A THREAT TO HOTELS: WYNDHAM CEO |
If you ask Wyndham Worldwide chief executive Stephen Holmes if he believes the growth of Airbnb is behind the wave of mega mergers that have shaken up the hotel sector in the past few years, his response is pretty blunt.
“It’s laughable,” he says.
“We have been buying brands and merging them together for 30 years. This was before Airbnb was a twinkle in somebody’s eye. So, no, it has nothing to do with that,” he told The Australian Financial Review while on a recent visit Down Under. |
